How Do I Pay Import Duties And Taxes?
The purpose of this article is to help you understand how to pay your import duties and taxes.
When you place an order and your shipment is subject to import duties and taxes, these fees are typically handled in one of two ways:
1. Prepaid at Checkout (Delivery Duties Paid - DDP)
- For orders shipping to the United Kingdom, Canada, China, Norway, Taiwan, Malaysia, South Korea, Singapore, Thailand and Japan, you can prepay import duties and taxes at checkout. This option, known as Delivery Duties Paid (DDP), ensures that all duties and taxes are settled at the time of purchase.
2. Pay upon Delivery
- For shipments to countries where DDP is not available, import duties and taxes will be collected by the carrier or your local customs office when your package arrives.
- You will be notified by the carrier about the amount due, and payment will be required before your package is delivered. The carrier will contact you either by email or an official letter.
- The carrier or customs office will inform you of the acceptable payment methods.
- We advise to keep an eye on the tracking. If you haven’t received an email or letter but you see on the tracking that the package is awaiting documents for customs clearance, please contact your the local office of the parcel carrier for further information.
Can I Refuse Import Duties And Taxes?
Yes, you have the option to refuse to pay import duties and taxes. However, please be aware of the following:
- If you choose not to pay these fees, the product will be returned to our warehouse.
- In this scenario, we will refund you the product price minus any possible surcharges from the postal carrier.
- The refund will be issued once the return has been processed and inspected by our warehouse, which can take up to at least 45 days in some cases.
Important Notes
- It is the buyer’s responsibility to pay any additional charges for customs clearance. If, however, you are requested to pay taxes and duties upon the parcel's arrival at customs, please proceed with settling the charges to facilitate the delivery. Following this, please reach out to us with the payment receipt or proof of payment so that we can process a refund of any duplicate charges.
- To avoid surprises, it’s a good idea to check your country’s import policies and potential charges before placing an order.
